10 Excel Best Practices Tips for Spreadsheet Owners

Our workshops often highlight the desire that most users want to understand spreadsheet best practice. However the numerous (and often excellent) books and articles on the subject usually present too much information for the spreadsheet user with a day job to take on. Here is our own two sheet top 10 list: ‘10 Best Practice Tips’ for spreadsheet owners.

DiffXL White Paper: EuSpRIG 2009

Our white paper “An approach for the automated risk assessment of structural differences between spreadsheets (DiffXL)” as delivered to the  European Spreadsheet Risk Interest Group, Paris 2009.

Excel VBA Training Course

We are often consulted upon which VBA courses are most suitable for people in our ‘field’, i.e. accountants, financial analysts, actuaries, technical project managers etc. Most courses concentrate on the needs of junior programmers, so after taking professional advice from training organizations, we wrote our own.

The full standard course for Excel 2003 (86 sheets, >2Mb) may be viewed here, (beware this may take some time) or to simply see the course contents, click here.

Oldies (but goodies ??)

Here are two simple tutoring spreadsheets. The exercises in advanced counting & summing techniques and in range names were written for Excel 2003. Although still valid after Excel 2007 was introduced., we removed them from our site, however after several requests on their whereabouts we’ve put them back. The spreadsheets are macro free and all the examples can be cut and pasted into your own spreadsheets.
