Migration Risk Assessment Reviews |
Excel for Managers offers a range of risk assessment reviews. The examination can be undertaken prior to an Office 2007 / Office 2010 / SharePoint upgrade, as a short stand-alone project, or as a part of a wider review & remediation requirement. |
The level of project scope and detail varies considerably, however a typical full review is likely to include an examination of current EUC policy and best practices, workshops with key stakeholders & internal audit to understand the current issues and any barriers to change, followed by a detailed spreadsheet review using both automated and human analysis methods. A typically review would be undertaken by two consultants over a two to four week period. Subject to client requirements and scope, our deliverables on a risk assessment review are commonly: ¨ An EUC policy, or where one already exists, any recommended changes in line with current acknowledged best practice. ¨ A simple to understand, simple to use inventory of EUC documents, including key data sources, links, references and external data connections, or if one already exists then the current inventory checked for accuracy and updated where appropriate. ¨ Recommended remediation plan – An objective, risk based assessment of any EUCs that are in need of short to medium term remediation in order to meet regulatory requirements, compliance issues or are posing an unacceptable risk of potential or actual errors. ¨ Best practice matrix—A list of what practical steps could be taken in the medium to long term to ALL EUCs in the inventory to bring them to a realistic best practice level using in-house skills and where possible WITHOUT any workbook re-design. ¨ A detailed analysis of every workbook in the inventory. This will include a formula map, workbook metrics analysis including every direct link / file reference, and commentary on any VBA / macros, migration issues to Office 2007 (if applicable) and likely Audit / SOX / Compliance /Regulatory issues or potential errors. ¨ A list of inter & intra departmental links or dependencies & their risk. ¨ Presentation of findings, conclusions and recommendations, plus follow up if required.
